A dependable vehicle can help someone get to work, attend treatment or medical appointments, care for family, and build a more stable future. When you offer a vehicle to Keys to Hope Foundation, you help create that opportunity for a San Diego County resident facing a significant transportation barrier.

Have a vehicle you’d like to donate?

We welcome offers of cars, trucks, SUVs, and other vehicles that may support our mission. A vehicle does not have to be new or cosmetically perfect. We review each offer individually to determine whether we can accept it and whether it can be safely and responsibly prepared for a recipient.

How vehicle donation works

  1. Tell us about the vehicle. Share its year, make, model, mileage, location, title status, and any known mechanical or safety concerns. Photos and maintenance records are helpful if you have them.
  2. We review the offer. Our team checks ownership and title information and assesses the vehicle’s condition and potential repair needs. We’ll let you know whether Keys to Hope can accept it and discuss the next steps.
  3. Complete the donation. If accepted, we’ll coordinate the handoff and complete the appropriate ownership documents. We’ll provide an acknowledgment of the donation and applicable tax documentation.
  4. Your gift supports the mission. A suitable vehicle may be inspected, repaired, and matched with an independently selected program recipient. If a vehicle is not suitable for direct transfer, Keys to Hope may consider another lawful way to use it to support the foundation’s charitable work.

Information to have ready

  • Your name and preferred contact information
  • The vehicle’s year, make, model, mileage, and location
  • Whether you have the title and whether a loan or lien remains
  • Whether the vehicle runs and drives
  • Any known mechanical, safety, smog, or registration issues
  • Photos, if available

You can offer a vehicle even if you’re unsure whether it qualifies. Submitting an offer does not mean the vehicle has been accepted; we’ll review it and contact you about the next step.

A note about tax deductions

Keys to Hope Foundation is a California nonprofit public benefit corporation. We intend to apply for federal recognition as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, but we have not yet submitted that application or received IRS recognition.

We can provide an acknowledgment for a vehicle donation we accept, but we cannot currently guarantee that a donation will be tax deductible or tell you the amount of any deduction. If a tax deduction is important to your decision, please speak with your tax adviser before donating.
